Over the course of Microcampus, you are expected to create a position paper rooted in food security. You have the benefit of having a unique experience that you can relate to this topic. During the six SAS Essentials periods scheduled, you have 6 assignments due, each building towards creating your paper. Each should be posted in your in a new Evernote notebook titled Microcampus GIS Last name, first name, and shared with your 4 core teachers. Each assignment should be titled “Assignment # _"
We hope your paper reflects your interests and your experience at Microcampus. The closer the topic is to Xizhou, the easier it will be to complete your assignment.
Day 1:
Research background information and begin narrowing down your topics. Use all resources available—Xizhou resources, the internet, the Microcampus website, and the library. In your note, Assignment #1, post a list of at least three possible topics that you might be interested in exploring further and writing a paper on. Remember you have a unique perspective from living in Xizhou. Utilize that.
Day 2:
Continue to research, digging deeper into your possible topics from Day 1’s list. Use the resources mentioned above to narrow your ideas down to one topic that you will research and write about for the rest of the time. In your note, Assignment #2, post the topic you have chosen, and a list of resources you used to come to that decision.
Day 3:
Begin researching deeply into your topic, trying to find connections to life in Xizhou, your life, and the world in general. Why does your topic matter? For the last half-hour of the period, write long in Assignment #3, capturing all your thinking about your topic thus far.
Day 4:
Continue researching, and begin planning your essay. By the end of the period, your research should be complete, and there should be a full outline of your paper in Assignment #4.
Day 5:
Begin writing your paper, using the outline and the research that you have already completed. In the last ten minutes of the period, create a list of steps you need to finish to complete your paper by the end of next class in Assignment #5.
Day 6:
Finish writing your paper. Your final draft should be posted in your Evernote under Assignment #6.__
